JAKARTA: Musician Ahmad Dhani was released after being questioned at the headquarters of the National Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) in Depok, West Java, but he remains a suspect for alleged defamation of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
Ahmad Dhani, who is also a deputy regent candidate in Bekasi, was arrested at Sari Pan Pacific Hotel on Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, on Friday.
He was questioned along with nine others, including artiste Ratna Sarumpaet, politician Sri Bintang Pamungkas and retired Major-Gen Kivlan Zein who were also arrested separately on Friday, hours before a large-scale rally against Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta.
“I was questioned about last week’s meeting at the house of Rachmawati,” Dhani said as reported by tribunnews.com, referring to the daughter of the country’s first president Rachmawati Soekarnoputri.
Rachmawati, the sister of former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, was arrested at her home and questioned at the Brimob headquarters for alleged treason.
Dhani was named a suspect due to the content of his speech during the huge rally on Nov. 4. — The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network
